Personal: The world famous skyline

Of course you all immediately recognize New York City (Manhattan) by online seeing its skyline ..its contour …the skyscrapers. I’m talking about the most famous skyline out there. For a while, after 9/11, I thought that without those beautiful Twin Towers the skyline would never be as recognizable as before. Luckily the people of New York added a few skyscrapers, one in particular, that really gave back the city that unique skyline. The one that people nowadays immediately associate with New York City.

So one of my goals for my visit to New York in 2014 was to capture that beautiful restored skyline. However, I wanted to capture it from a unique angle to capture its beauty with another perspective. Luckily I was able to shoot from this rooftop in Brooklyn, thanks to my client Ink Global. I wanted to capture it with the beautiful Manhattan Bridge instead of the regular (awesome) Brooklyn Bridge. It was great seeing the skyline now with the finished Freedom Tower (last time I visited NY they were constructing the fifth floor) and its beautiful and respectful Memorial Pool.

Travel: Japan …a bit homesick

Even though I’m not from Japan I still feel a bit homesick after my last visit. Back then I was totally into Japan …its culture, manga, music, games and movies …not to mention the streetview and food. Even had plans of emigrating to Japan .

Now that I’m active with photography my next visit to Japan would still be very interesting. Lots of fashion, street moments and colours to photograph. Also the camera gear over there is great. So it would only sound logical to go to Japan for my next trip.

Travel: A view to kill for ..

“Most beautiful view …for real”

Having drinks with such a view was definitely on our bucket list for New York. And I can say for real that it’s quite something to just sit there …I mean for me it kinda worked inspiring in a way so as I was enjoying my drink I thought of new photography projects. In the end we couldn’t wait to walk beneath those beautiful skyscrapers again so we quickly took the metro back to Manhattan.

So definitely a place to go back to when I’ll visit New York again!

Travel: Meeting Jessie of INK Global, Brooklyn NY

A while ago I was assigned by INK Globl, based in Brooklyn New York, for a street style shoot in Amsterdam. After I accomplished the assignment we stayed in touch and promised we should meet when I’m visiting New York.

And of course we met in Brooklyn, at their HQ which was really a nice experience, we had a good conversation about both New York and Amsterdam and shared some inside info. In the end she gave me a copy of their in flight magazine in which the photograph that I shot got published. More of that coming soon on the blog, commercial work section.

Blogging at Starbucks here in New York is something else …I mean people really do their work in here while enjoying there fav coffee flavour. As I’m sitting here people are having a meeting behind me, two tables away a woman is doing a skype meeting and MacBooks are used all around me. For me their is no better place to relax, get inspired and work at the same time, while enjoying a nice snack and a great view of the streets of New York.

Travel: Arrival in New York

Already by hearing the beautiful sound of the police-siren I got goosebumps all over me …Yes I am back in New York! And I am quite surprised how much I missed being here.

Even though me and my wife were a bit tired because of the flight we found some new energy and just had to visit some great places nearby our hotel. Now it´s still early in the evening yet I´m almost off to bed ..but first I have to finish this first post about my (second) first day in this awesome city. I decided to write this post while sitting in front of my (open) window to enjoy the view and the sounds of the city (my wife saw a comparison with a Carrie Bradshaw writing moment).

Of course I already spotted great street style and awesome street moments, which is almost inevitable. So you’ll be seeing some street style on the blog soon, only this time also from the Big Apple.
