Street style: Asian womenswear, New York

One thing that caught my eye was the clothing of Asian (mostly Chinese I guess) women. I seems they like styling themselves a bit boyish… oversized shirts, big prints, loose/regular fit jeans and sneakers. The reason why this caught my attention is because I visited Tokyo a few years ago and there the women style themselves quite well ..but hey, that’s years ago.

Next time I’ll be visiting New York I’ll keep an eye on the Asian women, curious if there’s any change by then.

Street style: Army look, New York

When I saw this young woman approaching me her look kinda reminded me of those old army/ war movies …it’s a nice look with personality, a bit manly but working perfectly with her looks. These sober looks appeal to you or not, in my case it did appeal to me so I decided to ask her for a quick photograph. She was really friendly and the moment I framed the shot she had this serious expression.

Review: Lumix GX8

lumix gx8 review the viewfinder

I had the pleasure of reviewing the Lumix GX8, the successor of the GX7. I must say it’s quite a camera and I will tell you why.

(review video for Kamera Express, Dutch only)

Improvements
Firstly the key improvements are the new 20 MPX sensor, Venus Engine Image processor, 4K video and faster AF-system. For me  the most important improvements are the faster AF in both video and stills, the faster burst of 10 pics per second and the larger body/ grip.

Not only is this camera specs-wise better than the GX7, the whole handeling is better. Buttons are more logically placed and the camera reacts faster, which is essential on the streets.

Option overload?
One downside of this camera, after only using it for this review, are the extensive options. I’m quite basic when using a camera, so I immediately noticed lots if options I normally don’t need. So there were moments I had to search for a specifik setting. This is a personal  thing maybe, these extensive options quite be practical for another person.

In short
This camera has quite a large sensor so expect to see good quality photos, nice shallow depth and good low light performance. A small body(compared to reflex bodies) and especially awesome small build lenses with great performance. Luckily the GX8 has still kind of the same body as the GX7, so perfect for street photography thanks to its retro rangefinder look.

Such a nice and beautiful woman …I spotted her from far away and thought of surprising her by shooting her just when she passed this corner. So the picture below is the one I shot first, keeping her real expression (a split-second after this shot she smiled friendly).

Afterwards we had quite the ‘small talk’ about her work as model, mine as photographer and of course New York City. Without noticing it we walk a few blocks together, while shooting and talking. I’d love to meet people like her ….open, interesting and friendly.

“New York isn’t that beautiful as they make it appear…”

Such a friendly young lady, doing her study work at Starbucks. I happen to sit across her and started a small chat about her style and within a few minutes she, my wife and I we having a nice conversation about New York, its way of life and being here as a tourist.

She told us a summery of her life here in New York and it was nice hearing her honest opinion about the city that never sleeps. For instance that New York isn’t that beautiful when it’s covered with snow. “Yes the postcards only show the nice spots with snow, but the most of the snow is dirty brown/ black because of the traffic. People dress themselves quite poor and the wind can be quite harsh.”

Street style: Red & blue menswear, New York

red blue menswear new york THE-VIEWFINDER

During my visit in New York I noticed that a lot of menswear I spotted on the streets did not have any real colour in it. Mostly they wore grey or black/ white. So when I saw this guy wearing red and blue (and that yellow phone cover) I took a quick snap.
